Slavery is not an option, it is a universal truth

Human generally acts as a slave of either any of these 4 things;
Allah the Almighty,
Satan the devil,
any worldly influence(s) and
his own self.

Being a slave of Allah is the best possible slavery.
On the other side, serving Satan as a slave is the worst possible one.

Following any worldly influence(s) like a slave
will lead to doing the activities (either positive or negative) similar to what they are doing themselves. 

It is an uncertainty of whether you might lose the spiritual purity or still stay in the safe zone. In this case, you have to justify it from top to bottom in order to increase the level of that certainty. But such slavery will still stay at a much lower quality.

And finally, being your own slave also holds the same uncertainty. Because, it is undoubtedly natural fact that some of your personal desires will go against the absolute-justified rules given by Allah. You really don't know about the consequences and negative impacts due to the desires you eagerly want to fulfill.

In conclusion, only be the slave of Allah, not for any other bullshits. If you permanently accept this slavery, He would never insert any form of negativity in your mind. Ultimately, there is no existence of Absolute Freedom in this Universe.
